Aspara Presents Awards for 2008
Film and Television Producers Guild
The show must go on, and the 4th Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards show for 2008 definitely went forward, albeit one year later, despite the series of terrorist attacks in Mumbai a little more than 12 months ago.
Held on the heels of the 40th International Film Festival of India, the Aspara Awards were handed out on December 5th in India’s largest city of Mumbai for the top cinematic performers of 2008. While the fourth edition of the show was to be held this time last year, the award ceremony was postponed until this week due to the 26/11 terror attacks.
According to the ceremony’s representatives, Hrithik Roshan claimed Best Actor for his role in Jodha Akbar, while Priyanka Chopra earned Best Actress honors for her work in Fashion. Bollywood actor/filmmaker Aamir Khan was named Best Director for Taare Zameen Par; the movie also nabbed Best Film honors.
In all, both Jodha Akbar and Taare Zameen Par won seven awards each; A Wednesday claimed four awards and Fashion nabbed three.
Visiting the city on a fund-raising campaign for his upcoming production of Taj, Hollywood actor Sir Ben Kingsley was reportedly in attendance at the award ceremony.
