Priyadarshan_100119_350wThe annoyingly chirpy bird named Woody may not have been in the details, but acclaimed Indian director-producer Priyadarshan has reportedly come to terms with U.S.-based Woodpecker Pictures to produce two Hindi feature films and a possible Hollywood film commencing April 2010.

Priyadarshan, whose Four Frames production company was part of the announced deal, was designated as director of both Hindi films, sources familiar with the deal told reporters. Members of the joint venture said both films are scheduled to be shot in Chennai and Europe under a 60-day filming time-line beginning in April.

“Four Frames has entered into an infrastructural and investment joint venture wherein Woodpecker will be forwarding the entire investments for the desired productions, which Four Frames will produce on their behalf,” Priyadarshan told reporters, confirming the deal between his production company and the U.S.-based entertainment fund.

The second production was announced as beginning filming in September and finishing in December.

If the reported third production, apparently a Hollywood project, takes place, both companies stated it will be a mainstream international feature film with an A-list cast shot primarily in Mexico.

Negotiations are still under way for the Hollywood production, both Four Frames and Woodpecker announced; if an agreement is ultimately reached, the deal would also have Priyadarshan directing that film as well, it was announced.

Woodpecker Pictures is the Indian subsidiary of Woodpecker Holding, Inc., a United States-based entertainment fund.

“For us, Priyadsarshan is our trump card and biggest star,” Woodpecker Holding executive Rajesh Bhatia told reporters. “The rest of the creative decisions, from casting to concepts, are solely at his discretion.”

An award-winning director of South Indian cinema, Priyadarshan made a name for himself remaking his Malayalam and Tamil films for Bollywood audiences. His most recent Bollywood films include De Dana Dan and Khatta Meeta, both of which star Akshay Kumar, and Billu, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Lara Dutta.

His last Tamil film, Kanchivaram, won a National Award for Best Film.
