Stiller and Kapoor to Join Forces
By: Kiran Ayodhya
Hindi film-star-turned-Hollywood-newbie Anil Kapoor apparently is not satisfied with is small-screen debut on the popular Fox television series 24.
Now he reportedly has his eyes set for the same place where he started his Hollywood career – the silver screen.
After making a smash-hit debut to American audiences by playing the slickly brazen game-show host on Slumdog Millionaire, Kapoor is reportedly eyeing his return to the Hollywood silver screen by joining forces with actor-producer Ben Stiller.
If the reported deal is executed, Kapoor and Stiller will produce two films together, one in English and one in Hindi.
Stiller had publicly expressed that his Red Hour Films will produce a Bollywood project, and now his wish may become a reality with Kapoor by his side.
Kapoor told reporters that Stiller’s plans to break into Bollywood had picked up steam after the two had met on the Meet the Fockers set in Los Angeles.
“I met Ben Stiller on the set of Meet The Fockers in L.A. He had heard about Slumdog Millionaire and wanted to meet me. He is very keen to produce Indian films,” Kapoor told a Hollywood-based publication about the development of his partnership with Stiller.
“He’s heard a lot about Bollywood films and is keen to be part of them,” Kapoor continued. “Now he’s (working on) a sequel to Meet The Fockers. After that’s over, we will plan something. I am in touch with Ben on e-mail.”
As Stiller and Kapoor stay abreast on their respective current projects, updated reports about the joint Hollywood-Bollywood project will be made publicly available as the productions take form.
After starring in Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, Kapoor has shifted his career focus to Hollywood. In addition to being invited to join the Screen Actors Guild weeks after Slumdog Millionaire won an Academy Award for Best Picture, Kapoor told reporters he has met with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Christopher Nolan and Brian de Palma.
“I have had great meetings with studio heads, writers and directors,” he said.
